Kol Isha ("A Woman's Voice")

From September 2008 through May 2009, Kol Isha will continue its exploration of post-Biblical Jewish women's voices. In 2007-08, Kol Isha explored post-Biblical Jewish women's contributions to society and to Judaism. Our study included historical background from the Bible and other Jewish sources, prayerbook references, musical interpretations, and comparative theologies. In the upcoming year, we will delve more fully into women and Jewish prayer, women's voices in contemporary literature, and other topics broached in 2007-08. New topics will include women in the Talmud and women in Jewish visual arts.

About Kol Isha

Kol Isha means "a woman's voice" and is open to all those who seek to deepen and enrich their Jewish knowledge and spirituality from a woman's perspective. It is a community of study and practice which explores Judaism's rich traditions and texts through the lens of women's energies, interpretations, and images of the divine.

The focus of study in 2006-2007 was God. In 2005-2006 was Psalms, and in 2004-2005 it was Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. In previous years Kol Isha has explored the laws of spiritual purity and the mikvah, studied the Matriarchs and Life Cycle events, and worked with Liz Lerman and the Dance Exchange on movement and spirituality.

Kol Isha meets monthly on Sundays from 1:00-3:30 downstairs in the social hall at Temple Micah. Please send an email for more information.
